The 302 in my '86 F150XLT is reving beyond belief. At start up, I'm around 20000 rpm. It will come down to about 1000, but still surges. At a lower linkage, it dies as the surges go down. I've tried several things, but have been told this is typical with a sensor. Any ideas as to what sensor would cause this or if it's even a correct response? Have considered having the linkage checked, also... Is REALLY becoming a headache. HELP!!!
And thanks in advance to any emails!!!
This is some what common in the early efi trucks. Clean or replace the air bypass valve. And insure there are no big vacuum
leaks iepower brake unit, cruise control, heater controls.) The idle on these vehicles is controlled by how much air the computer allows to go around the throttle plates (vacuum leak). I do not remeber if an 86 truck is TBI or multiport efi either way they still have air bypass valves. The TBI units where bad about the gasket going bad between the tbi assmebly and the intake manifold.
