Why does everyone complain so vehemently about the cost of fuel? Have any of you guys gone into Hardees and complained about the cost of a hamburger? I no longer eat fast food but I see the commercials and billboards--$5 for a burger seems high compared to almost 3 gallons of fuel. Look at the cost of cable and satellite tv. Why do we pay $50 a month for the basic stuff--AND still have to watch commercials? A Coke costs over a dollar for a 20 oz??? Health insurance costs $400 a month if you're lucky. Just look at the cost of vehicles themselves. Everyone I talk to who mentions fuel prices states we're being gouged. How do they figure that? Maybe we've just been paying artificially low prices for years and now we're all hooked on driving anywhere for anything for any reason; we all moved 30 miles away from our places of work and wonder why it costs so much to get there. And, if we didn't move farther away, there's so much traffic, it takes twice as long to get where we're going anyway. "I don't like it any more than you men." But, I don't think we're being gouged, no more than Hardees is gouging us, no more than the dairy farmer is gouging us, no more than DirecTV is gouging us. The price of everything is going up as far as I can see. Just remember, diesel prices WILL fall to below gasoline when the weather warms. Diesel may still be a lot over $2, but it will again be less than gasoline.
Now, I am going to the Corona website to complain about the cost of their beer. And, no, I will not drink American beer if I can help it! Sorry Budweiser, you just don't know the meaning of SMOOTH.
u have a good point.....;but u are WAAAAYYY off on the dairy farmer. he takes a much harder hit than u or i. the price of a gallon of milk may have gone up, but the farmers didnt see a nickel.
oh and fuel went up another 2 cents today
isnt it great? i love spendin money i dont even make!!!!
I don't know about everyone else here, but the thing that gets me more than the cost of diesel, is the flip flop it has done over gas. Up until recent years, diesel was always consideraly cheaper than regular unleaded. Now it is 70 or so cents higher. I have always been under the impression diesel is cheaper to manufacture than gasoline. Why wouldn't they go up the same amount? Yes I understand the whole supply and demand thing, basic economics, but this gouging as you refer to it is going to kill our economy. We (diesel owners) will pay for it not only at the pump, but will pay for it in everything else we do along with the rest of the population due to higher transportation costs of the goods we consume. Diesel is the lifeblood of this country in getting goods from point A to point B.

Lnd Svyr...it is because none of the items you have mentioned have experienced a 50% + price increase within the last 18 months with no relief to be seen in the immediate future.
What we need is a hybrid diesel with more torque and hp than what we are running now. We'll save on fuel for sure. You can switch with a button from full diesel for towing or flip it to hybrid for mileage. Add a propane tank injection kit and you have a tri-mode dial for mileage, fuel economy, towing, and distance.
Anyone up for a gentleman's wager on how many posts this thread gets before it fades away or gets pulled for content.
Hope my $1.82/gal source is still available tomorrow morning. I need to fill up before heading out of town for the week.
Anybody have any info on the break point where biodiesel becomes a cheaper option vs. traditional highway diesel? Are there currently price supports for the biodiesel and if so how much?
Curious also on energy requirements to produce the biodiesel vs. traditional if anyone knows. I suspect this will be the real price driver for this stuff. Any information on the make-up of the biodiesel? and what is Ford's position on running it? I've not seen it offered anywhere in the Houston/Dallas/OKC/Lake Charles/Lafayette, LA areas.

You can make your own bio diesel at home with a kit for like .50 cents a gallon after buying the equipment. It's like $4,000 for the kit. The only problem is people getting over the fear of running it in their trucks. If diesel hits $5 bucks a gallon...I bet the "fear" will fade.
I would imagine that some sort of Fuel Gas or natural gas would be used to generate the energy required to produce the biodiesel and not a heavy oil.
I'll dig around a little and see what I can find out. In the mean time, if someone has definitive "detailed" knowledge of how the biodiesel is produced and answers to my earlier post I would certainly be interested in learning about it.
Dogdude. I looked into the bio stuff. It's more like 80 cents or so for home brew, plus your heater electrical cost, plus your start up costs, and you gotta get a good free supply of grease, but still worth a look if costs go up. Only running a legal 5%(if you listen to the manufacturer) will hurt your bottom line also. Gotta sell a bunch of it to come close to breaking even. But if you can find a few friends to go in with......then it becomes a little more interesting. Even at $1 a gallon, it might be worth it it the LONG run.
Then you have to store it. Then you need secondary containment because you don't want a tank leak to run downhill into your house, then ....
Might work out in a rural environement but to get the economies of scale - ehh? The homeowners assocaition would have a Kaniption (sci?) fit in my neighborhood. It's interesting to discuss though.
