inline 6 vs. V8
I'm currently looking for a 1990-92 (pre-body style change) manual trans f-150/250, and am wondering if anyone can give their 2-cents worth on the straight 6 engines vs. the V8, and on the 300 vs. 351 from those years.
I really love the straight 6, and was planning on looking for the same, but want to hear what folks have to say about the 8s.
For what it's worth, I wouldn't use my truck for any inordinately heavy hauling.
thanks, deborah s.
The 300 is probably the best at long life grunt power, I've seen several power graphs and it appears on paper, and to me that the 300 has a bit more low end torque than either v8s. But mileage really isn't impressive. If your after good upper power and mileage, go with a 302, but if you want HD power and fair mileage, go with the 351.
If you really love your 300, then I would go with another. 150hp and 260ft/lbs of torque. the 302 had 185hp/270ft/lbs and the 351 had 210hp and 315ft/lbs of torque.
