Hi, I am looking at new 06 Ford XL F150 and I was wondering the big differences between the v6 and v8 and is it worth the 750 + auto tranny for the 29hp that you gain from the v8? I'm looking at the v6 auto or v8 auto.
again in my opinion, a v8 is the only way to go in a pickup. now that being said if your only driving to the daycare and ball games then a v6 just could do you plenty. if your going to work your truck any kind of way then the v8 componets will be worth the money.upgraded reareends, and trannies pay for them selves. hp, and torque are just byproducts of the the upgrades of going to a v8.
i cant say anything about the 2006 v-6, but the 2002 f150-single cab that i had was a v-6 with a stick and it did plenty good 4-me, mind you that it would not win a race or anything but it did great as a daily driver, 17mpg but i also drive very light on the gas pedal. the only reason i got a 2005 truck was for the x-tra room of the super-cab, and the x-tra power of the v-8. but with the riseing cost of gas($2.72) here in sanantonio, i want my v-6 but my v-8 gets about 14-15mpg, so i hope i helped! thanks!!
lol ... i didn't even realize that Ford had the V6 option in this model 150. I thought they did away with that when they went to the new body style.
I just looked up the specs on the V6 ... 202 hp and 260 ft lbs of torque. It seems small given how heavy the truck is. Most of the debates on this forum have been between the 5.4l and the 4.6l V8. The overwhelming response was the 5.4l.
Well, I just traded up from a 99 reg cab with a v6 and a stick to an 05 ext cab 4.6 v8 and an auto. I miss the stick, but other than that the truck runs smoother, pulls better and has a lot more grunt, despit the new one weighing almost 1000lbs more. And i still get the same or better mileage.
If you get the V6 and manual, you better plan on keeping it a long time. Resale will be low and it will be hard finding a buyer. There is a very limited market for a manual transmission truck that has a very low towing capacity.
It's not the HP you should be considering but the torque. The lower in the rpm range torque develops the better. These trucks are heavier then their predecessors, to get it moving you need torque, HP doesn't come into the equation until later in the power band. So from this perspective, the only option is a V8.
I am not sure what packages are available on the XL but I just bought an XLT and right now they have a $1245 discount for the Tow & Go package. What that is, if you upgrade to the 5.4L and the towing package both options are free. That might be worth looking in to. A base XLT can't be all that much more than an XL can it and add the Two & Go if thats all you want for additional options.
well let me add my 2 cents(again) my f 150 (2005) is not bringing any $$ either, i have been trying to trade it in 4 a new car and i have a $3,900 difference from what i owe and what it is worth, and it has a v-8! the simple fact is that right know with gas prices being so high it is NOT A TRUCK MARKET! and even the fanciest best equipped truck(ford, chevy,or dodge) just is not worth much right now with high fuel prices. just my two cents!! thanks!!
