i talked to a diesel tech from ford the other day and he said they were having roblems with the head gaskets blowing out on the 6.0...i asked him about it because my 04 has wet spots on both sides of the block and pukes white smoke somtimes like it is burning water....anyone else hear anything?
i am gonna take the truck into my local dealer and see what is up...i have rn the predator and have a straigt pipie and gauges so i will put the stock exhuast on and take out the program...before the truck is completely to operating temp., i will be accelerating and just about when its time to push the clutch in, the truck will puke white smoke and stumble...when it is totally warm, it doesn't really do it...i ges i will just have to have them check it out since it is still under warranty.
thats not an egr problem. its almost certainly a timing problem. if it were head gaskets, u would know. under the force of cyl press in a 6.0, head gaskets wont take much time to make up their minds u may have an external leak, tho.
hmmm another wild guess...injector?
The reason I guessed EGR is the puff of white smoke. I get that when my EGR acts up...it idle's down down down to almost a konk...then it revs itself up up up with a puff of white smoke. and repeat. Unplug the EGR, it stops instantly. With a manual tranny...maybe it does it the way you described?
Beats me...good luck with it. I'm with ya.
I had an 03' 6.0L and had the white smoke, the dealer said it was the EGR and replaced it. However, I did not keep the truck long enough to find out if that was the cause.
I have an 04' 6.0L now. I took it to the dealer today b/c of 2 symptoms. First, I could smell anti-freeze periodically, even though truck did not run hot and I did not notice any leaks. Second, I noticed white smoke on WOT, especially under load (towing 5K lbs).
The dealer said it was a clogged EGR. The EGR was causing the turbo to not work properly, and that was causing slight overheating and thus the anti-freeze smell. They said that I may have gotten some bad diesel and that caused the clogged EGR.
