My 1996 Explorer with electric door locks keeps unlocking itself. Even with the remote locking pad out of range, the locks start popping up continously for about 20 seconds. Any help would be appreciated.
My wife just reported to me that her 97 Mountaineer has been unlocked every morning when she goes out to leave for work. And, it has done it at other times and places. Have you figured out the problem?
T,
I found an old posting that suggested disconnecting the wire that is on the back side of the key cylinders. This disables the all door unlock. Apparently, moisture seeps in through the key hole, shorts this circuit, and commands all doors to unlock. Mine was the passenger side that had the problem, but it could be any of the three doors with key locks. All I lost was the ability to unlock all doors from the passenger side, and that door does not unlock when using this feature from another door.
Thanks for the quick reply. It has been raining here lately, so moisture is a possibility. Now I just have to figure out which door!
Personally I would do every door. Just pull the connector on each and wipe with a dry cloth. You might even want to use a hair dryer on them to remove any excess moisture. Also try applying a little Vaseline or other thick lubricant to create a moisture seal.
