Just got the truck back yesterday 04 scab FX4 with 7k miles on it. Had to replace the front tires due to yep you guessed it, a slight vibration. I never really noticed it but apparently the dealer did so I guess their proactive approach is good.I also have a problem with the passenger door rattling when going down a trail. The dealer of course can not duplicate the sound. So they can't do much. I still have to go back next week for the rear power window rattle fix and a driveline kit. Is that the infamous Dampner? Just ranting sorry. Any ideas on the door rattle? any feedback before I bring it back would be helpful. it doesn't sound like just a loose window bolt it sounds like it is coming from the latch somewhere. Thanks in advance guys & gals.
I get the same rattle when ever I go over a good size bump. I think this is probably going to be normal considering what these doors weigh, something has to give.
I am going to try adjusting the latch so the door closes tighter against the body and see if that resolves this. You might try the same.
Yeah good call. maybe will try that. I was just outside looking at my truck and noticed the counter weight they placed on my left rear what is up with that thing?
My scab did that on the drivers side, but not all the time. Sometimes when I hit a good size bump it would not make any noise at all. After a little investigating on my own, I found that the bottom door latch for the rear drivers would not latch unless the door was slammed pretty hard, or it did latch when I grabbed the bottom of the door, and pushed it closed. I took it back to the dealer, and they adjusted it. Now it latches everytime. Don't know if this is the same as your problem, but it was very anoying.
I also had what I thought was a door rattle. What I finally traced the noise it turned out to be from the plastic shroud mounted to the ceiling between the two doors. One of the two bolts holding it in place had worked itself out and the metal clip the bolt threads through was rattling around up there. I found the bolt on the floor under the seat and put it back in. It wouldn't thread to the clip correctly, so I still need to take it to the dealer, but at least the annoying rattle went away!
czc, I think that counterweight has something to do with vibration issues you may have had. There are other posts on this counterweight.
Do you have a SCAB?. The driver door on these Scabs are considerably longer than the Screws and heavier. I am guessing that when you hit the bump the door is causing the hinges to flex up and down. With a little more tension on the door it may stop this flexing of the hinges. Just my 2 Cents.
Boorume, thanks for the heads up on that latch. I will check mine to see if it is latching properly.
Thanks. I was just taken back a bit by it when I sawthis thing under there. It is a strange set up. Great feedback on the doors. I have to think it may need and adjustment somewhere since it is only the passenger side doing it. I love this truck it is a blast to drive but I don't want ford to continue to put band aids all over it. I will say that driving home last night from the dealer it felt smoother but then again I never thought it was bad. The dealer did.
I have the 05 scab w/the rattle on the pass. side also. Check the plastic plate on the side of the dash where the air duct is transfered to the door. I could tap on mine with my fingers and it would rattle.
