89 areostar bogging down

hello Im back (johnl9457)
I have a 89 areostar i just changed the plugs and wires.... found out the wires were wrong fixed that,,,, sounds like its running better but im no machanic....
the engin light is still comming on,,, i runs good for likle a hour than it start to boggd down and stalls,,, if I let it sit for like 15 mins it starts and runs fine,,, looking at my guages my oil guages seems to be low its like on the low end just over the normal mark and my temp guage is the same only getting up to about the 3rd mark on the gauge.... im reall poor and cant really afford a diagnostic charge at this time and suggesting on things to check are welcomed.....

You can pull your own codes fairly easy with a piece of wire or even a paper clip.

Here is the "how to"

They should be 2 digit codes for your year.

With the codes, that will help diagnose your problem.

I hesitate to throw this out so early in the discussion but a failing/plugged catalytic convertor will act this way. Try this (because its cheap) - when you first start the van in morning (cold engine) let it idle while you hold your hand over the tailpipe opening and get a "feel" for how strong the exhaust pressure is. The next time the engine starts to "bog" down see if you can get to the tailpipe before it quits and see if the tailpipe pressure is the same as before or is greatly reduced. If the pressure seems low, the converter may be plugged.

The thin film ignition (TFI) module is the usual suspect in these cases but the fact that your engine bogs down, then quits doesn't sound like TFI. They generally fail dramatically - running one minute and gone the next.
