Hi all--new to the board. I own a 1994 Ranger with the 3.0V6. Yesterday, I noticed that I was leaking coolant. Standing in front of the truck, if you look on the very front of the engine, you can see the coolant leaking out. It would appear to be a head gasket issue, but I was also told that there may be a freeze plug located in that area. It is apparently coming from behind the water pump housing. I was just wondering where the freeze plugs are located on the engine. Well, I know about the ones on the sides, but is there also one up there in front? IT is on the front passenger side of the block. The truck still starts and runs fine--it just leaks coolant. 111K so far. Thanks for the help!
Update--it looks like the leak is actually from the timing cover gasket. It is at the shop right now. Hopefully that is all that is wrong. Normally I would grab the tools and check it out myself, but I work too much with my present job...
yeah--took it to the shop this morning. It is leaking right at the timing chain cover gasket. Alternator and mounting bracket were removed, and everything else(like the head gasket) looks intact, so now we know where the problem is. And it has just over 111K on it, so since it will be off anyways, I sprung the $70 for the new timing chain too. Luckily, it was a slow leak--my radiator was still full of coolant, and it never overheated. But I cannot chance it because I need the truck for my work. So it will be all taken care of this weekend. I will post an update if anything else comes out of this. Thanks for the reply!
