I have what seems to be a very slight leak coming from the front freeze plug on the passanger side. I've never messed with freezplugs before, is this something that can be easily repaired?
I actually took the truck in to the mechanic last year since it was leaking realy bad (timing cover). I usually fix stuff myself but after changing the water pump once I didnt even want to bother again with the timing cover and just took it in. I told him then that the timing cover was leaking just about as fast as I could pour coolant in, and also a slight leak from the freezeplug. He fixed the timing cover and said nothing about the freeze plug, about 2 weeks more than the 3 days he quoted me, so I was impatient and didnt press on about the freeze plug. Its just leaking a little faster now than I'd like.
I don't think actually replacing a freeze plug is a big deal. I've done it just a few times but it was in cases where I had clear access to the block.
In your case, accessing the area to drive the replacement freeze plug in might be a challenge.
In other words, I don't think the act of replacing it is very hard, but getting to it might be.
I'm guessing thats means its something I cant do since I am not wanting to pull the motor myself. I'll just have to keep it checked frequently, seems to be loosing about an inch in the reservoir in about two weeks time.
