air in fuel

every time I start my truck after it sits for about 8 hours or so I have to bleed the fuel system from the valve located next to the filter or the truck will stall after 2 or 3 minutes. I have an 86 f-250 with a 6.9 litre diesel. Also, I am running an auto trans with 36" tires. I am getting only 9 mpg. Any suggestions to rid myself of the air in fuel problems and to get more mpg???

Its really hard to pinpoint where the air is getting into the fuel system. Several places that it would most likely happen are, the return lines are dried out, the orings beneath the return caps are dried out. These things can be replaced in kit form from international, injection shops or online purchases. Even tho there is no fuel showing, the places I mentioned can leak air into themselves.
The lift pump may be starting to leak, usually evident by dampness at weep hole. Hope this helps you out.

If you can park it on a sloped driveway with the nose down see if it starts good, that is a sure sign of air entering the system and fuel drainback.
