Been running My Hypertech Programmer for the last 100,000 miles and never had a problem. And yes worth every penny!! As long as you don't buy it for MPG increase, it will not happen!!
IMO, the hypertech was a good programmer, but as of late the SCMT and Predator tuners give the most bang for the buck.
IMO, the day of the chip has passed, especially considering the small price gap between a tuner and a chip and then comparing the useablity of the two.
