Yes I remember how people were not too fond of diesels back then. I had 2 diesel wabbits. Loved them. Might have bought a diesel ranger had I known about them.
Would buy a diesel rabbit pick-up now if I could find one in good shape that did not have mileage on it equal to the nat. debt figures.

1983 i got my driver's license / dad had a nissan wagon & a buddies dad had vw rabbit & vw 'truck' - i can still remember the few stations in town that we could fill up.
I have an 84 longbed ranger diesel that I got for $150 with a blown up motor
took it out in went a built 351w and bingo a non emissions street rod truck was born
