I'm torn between a couple of options. I'm looking at the BFGoodrich MT, Toyo MT, Baja Claw Radials, and Nitto Mud grapplers. I want something thats not too loud, has decent road wear, and still capable in mudd/sand. I'll also be towing about 5K-6K about once or twice a month. I've heard good thing about all these tires, and I'm looking for some advice/comments. Any opinions from experience?
I ended up ordering Dick Cepek Fun Country II from summit racing. I have been towing with them all winter to vermont through snow mud etc. They are real good. They also clean out well, I have not complaints and would reccommend them.
Another brand to consider are the Goodyear MTRs. I have them (37x12.50) and couldn't be happier. After 9000 miles they are wearing great and haven't let me down in the mud yet (mild offroading).
I read the same thing on the mud tires, longevity and highway driving. Im picking mine up tomorrow, went with the Nitto Grappler (A/T) 35's, havent heard much bad about them. Hoping that a) the noise is not to bad compared to stock and b) they are decent in sand or mud and I can get som miles out of them on the street. We shall see.
I've been through a couple sets of tires on my excursion so far.... the stock tires are terrible as we all know and they were recalled and replaced with pirelli scorpions... The pirellis are great for highway and towing IMHO. They went up to an E load range in the 265/75/16 size and that made a big difference. They are decent in the winter weather but not great.
Also have had 285/75/16 BFG All Terrain's on the stock wheels. They were great A/T tires but started to get noiser as time went on. Still good for towing and highway travel. Good in mild mud but terrible in sticky mud. Decent in winter conditions but not the best. I'd rather have snow tires for the winter.
Then went to 315/75/16 Dunlop Mud Rovers. Just like any other mud tire they are really loud on the highway. They balance out at first but if you do any significant highway driving you will scallop them and they will never balance right again. Awesome offroad obviously but not great for anything else.
Now I have 315/75/16 ProComp X Terrains. They are the best of all worlds. Very quiet for the tread pattern... not as quiet as stockers but half the noise of the mud terrains. Great in deep snow.... not so good in the icy stuff. Decent in the Mud and dirt but not as good as the mud terrains. For an everyday driver they are managable.
Over the years i have ran several sets of bfg at's,, Great tire if you dont really off road much and they would go 50,000+ miles. Ran several sets oF Cooper A\T's in the 285 size and they would go an easy 55,000 miles, very comparable to the bfg's, but priced much less. Got me a new set of cooper Discoverer ST's today, very aggressive tread not to noisy at all. Should be awesome in the mud,,handled the wet roads very well today.
About 600 bucks out the door seems to be the average price, Thankfully have a very good friend and saved a bundle.
I heard alot of good things about the toyo m-55. a contractor buddy of mine is changing his fleet over to this tire because of the traction, load ratings and treadwear. check them out at the Toyo website

I was told that the Toyo and Nitto A/T were much the same tires, some difference in the sidewall but tread the same. But what do I know.
