Any opinions on dynomax versus flowmaster for a 302? Flowmaster seems to be more popular but I'm not so sure they're any better than dynomax. I'm on a bit of a budget and I haven't even started pricing either one out yet. I'm still waiting for my Summit catalog. Also, any suggestions on whether I should keep the single exhaust or go dual? I live in CA. so I have to beware of the smog police. Thanks.
From my experiences, the Flowmasters usually last longer than the DynoMax systems. I don't know why as they're both aluminumized and seem to be about the same guage steel.
As for the single or dual, either way will show decent performance gains. The dual route will be more expensive, so seeings you're on a budget I'd stick to the single route. Flowmaster offers two different single-out systems, both of which are 3" cat-back kits. The American Thunder system has that classic (and louder) Flowmaster sound while the Force II system keeps things quiet inside the cab. Hope this helps ya some.
I just installed a Dynomax system from Summit 2 weeks ago. It was $199 delivered to my door. It was a direct replacement, 2 1/2 in but dual 2 1/4 out with the Super Turbo muffler. It sounds good but is not too loud.
92 F150 ext.cab 4x4 302 auto
$55 flowmaster 40 series from PAW auto parts in Thousand Oaks, CA
$25 installation
$20 removal of tailpipe and adding turn down (donkey d!ck, dump, etc.) If I had known ahead of time that the stock piping was extremely quiet with the flowmaster I wouldn't have had to go back and it would have been a much cheaper job...next truck I will be getting a single in-dual out dynomax turbo muffler and install turn downs right after the axle...as my exhaust is now its about 1' in front of the passenger rear tire and it resonates like a mo'fo under the bed!
I like Flowmasters much better than Dynomax. On an article I read they dyno tested a 93 5.0 Mustang. Flows added about 10 hp, and Dynomax didnt maximize anything it lost power by almost 5 hp. Hope this helps
