Got my new Gtech Pro performance meter...
If you guys are interested, there is a guy selling them on Ebay for $26 plus shipping. I bought 3 extras for gifts for my friends.
I can't wait to start tuning the 511 again. At least with the meter I'll be able to tell if I'm making progress.

These are not the fancy LCD screen, PC downloadable versions that sell for 199+. These are the basic Gtech/Pro that does a single run, then you reset to do your next run. To me it's easier to just write down the results than screw with downloading to a laptop (if I had one). They claim to be accurate to 1/10 second in 1/4 mile time, and +/- 3hp. Hell, nowdays it cost $26 just to take the wife to a movie and buy popcorn. She'll have to do without the movie this week.

Russ
1. A successful run- logging a good 1/4 mile time.
2. Too much power- not enough pavement. The project is in the ditch, barbed-wire, trees and bovine encounters.
3. The local authorities throw the book at me. Speeding, display of power, wreckless driving, racing, etc. etc.
I think I'll save my tuning for the track :-) $15 test and tune nights, completely legal.

All you do is tell it you want to measure 1/4 mile time and speed, then push the button. It will calibrate itself, then say "go" on the display. At that point you just nail it. It will flash your 1/4 mile time when you hit the 1/4 mile, you don't have to know your 1/4 mile marker beforehand. It does the calculation internally by determining your G forces against time to come up with the 1/4 info.
Greg,
My "local" track is over 100 miles away, and 3000' lower. So it isn't an effective tuning aid. I live out in the country, and the road I live on has a 1.5 mile stretch with nothing but my two houses, and the family ranch on it. I see a Sheriff drive by about twice per year. Can you say "private dragstrip"? And yes, I've had to fix the fences before. I used to run off the road so often in high school that I carried the tools to fix the fence in my truck!

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Been wanting one of these for some time now, but thats when they were still over $100. We have plenty of good, flat straight back roads around her to drag around on.
I've heard of guys taking their g-techs to the track and they were very close to posted track times. Perfect for weekend tuning and messing around. Could even be a safe way to drag between friends, each go out and make their own single run instead of racing side by side, I'm all for that.
We have an 1/8th mile track 70 miles from here, I've ran my '65 Coronet there a few times, posting times of 9.00 flat at 78 mph, would like to know what it does in the quarter as well as my ford too.
You know...if one falls your capable of outrunning a Honda. If two falls then your outrunning a Camaro....... and if the whole six pack comes fly'n your haul'n azzz
Ok, not what I usually use.....
I bought a Vericom back about 15 yrs ago when Summit first came out with them. I'm thinkin' more than $250 was the price. It took most of my work Xmas bonus that year
.I still have it, rarely use it(for most reasons mentioned above
).I'd like to put it in the wagon and check the accuracy....someday.
The last time out was a couple years ago in a buddies big block/4 spd original Vette. Got to hand it to him...that car did fly. He wanted me to "show" him how to launch it. OKey, DOkey......
I made a couple 1/4 mile blasts, running 13.0 at 108 mph(per Vericom).
