Cast iron bellhousing weight?

Hey guys.

My cast iron bellhousing is currently mounted on my truck, so I can't weigh it, but I know it's a heavy bugger. It's a manual by the way.

Do any of you guys know what one of these weighs? Or by chance have one laying around you could throw on a scale?

Thanks,

-Scouder

I never knew there was a cast iron bell housing.

I always thought that they were cast aluminum.

Learn something new everyday.

I know my scattershield weighs a bit more than my old housing.

BTW; great looking engine in your gallery .

yep, the FE's only had cast iron bellhousings , but i think cars may have had a aluminum one. 65lbs is close with the clutch and flywheel you are looking at 100 lbs.

Thank you Gentlemen. It would appear that by putting in the C4 I will be able to remove about 100lbs from the truck. Including the flywheel, bell, clutch, linkages, pedal and tranny, the NP435 I have weighs in at about 260lbs. I have been told that the C4 with converter and bell will weigh about 150lbs. Any way you stack it, there is alot of weight to be saved.

the NP 435 weighs 150 lbs i thought? but a c-4 is way lighter. not even 150 more like 120 i can pick one up and carry it under my arm it is so small. but where are you going to find a c-4 made for a FE?

If heard of a few C-4 trans mated up to an FE, but not real common.

Scouder, why not use a C-6.

Maybe a little heavier, but also a stronger trans.

There are aluminum bellhousings sold on ebay for the FE to C4 conversion. I think they are like $395. All car bellhousings were iron also. The only other aluminum bells I know of were on some of the Tbolts and LW Galaxies and made by RC.

I see many evil minds are still up and thinking this time of the night. I may be wrong but the bell housing felt around 55# and the 435 as 95#. It's been 7 years since the last clutch job, now have a C-6.

thinking? nope that part went to sleep without me. the np 435 i have here with pto is a beast and is about 150 .maybe i am off on the bellhousing, i compared it to a 55 lb bag of chicken feed. i held the bellhousing in one hand and bag in the other. the bell housing felt heavier. now thats a redneck scale.
