I have a 90 E350, 7.3, E4OD (just rebuilt last month). It started to give me trouble today shifting from 1st to 2nd. I used low, 2 and then D, and got it to the place that did the trans. He checked the codes and said it was the processor. By the time I got it to the shop it was acting normal. When he drove it there was no problem. Murphy's law I guess. Anyway, what is a processor? Will it cause the trans to shift strange, and where is it. I just installed power windows, could I have done something to it? He is getting it from Ford for $290, is that good? Also since the trans has had all the upgrades, should it have mercon V? Thanks for any help.
He said there were some in 95 and I am not sure what else. It seems to be a reputable shop. Been there for many years. Other people I know had work done and were satisfied. I tow alot so I am hard on the trans I guess.
I dont follow the 95 thing....
Are you saying upgrades from the factory, cause then they arn't upgrades, they are just factory improvements. Then you just follow what the book says.
I cant help you on the processor, Im into manuals. I can tell you that E4OD's blow a lot, and break all the time...
Before the tech changes the Powertrain Control Module if that is what you mean, get him to reset the FIPL (TPS). I/We have not heard any change for the E4OD to Mercon V in fact just the opposite remain with Mercon-Dexron111 is recommended by Ford.
I got the van back today. The processor was the original. There was a recall in 92 and some changes after that. The new one from ford has a slightly different number. It was under the heater in a black box. What genious designed an electric gizmo to be under a potential water leak. Anyway they also checked the TPS and it was ok. The van shifts fine so I guess I will have to wait and see. Now I can get back to work anyhow. Thanks for all the help.
