Haynes Techbook - "Welding Manual"
The origins of welding reach all the way back to the Blacksmith's arts...
From shoeing horses, to tempering swords.
It was first defined as "The joining of Metals, by heating them to that point at which they melted and fused together", but the art and tech has gone far beyond that now, to the point where non-metals are considered to be welded together by various processes.
Welding includes both "Fusion" and "Non-Fusion" methods, an example of the second being "Brazing" or "Soldering" where an intermediate metal is used. The target metal is heated to the point where the actual "Joining" metal melts and flows between (such as silver solder, for instance), and becomes a solid bond once all of the parts cool down....
I have long been fascinated by this, and although I do not say here that the Haynes book (or any of their manuals) are a definitive treatise on the subject matter, the book is commonly available at many parts stores, and for ten bucks packs an aweful lot of truly fascinating info...
KEN? Do we have anything like this, or is theire an FTE resource for such books?
I spotted it while I was standing around in line at (my local parts house) and I swear I'm going to read it cover to cover before I read anything else......
Unusual for a tech manual to GRAB my imagination as this one has....
