I have an 1985 F150 6 cylinder 300. I discovered (after shearing two distributor pins) that my oil pump is seized up. Has anyone had any luck freeing it up (using a shaft/socket/ratchet) rather than the alternative of dropping the pan?
I hate to suggest bad news, but even if it were to break loose with a shaft/socket/ratchet, how would you know for sure that you were getting adequate or any oil flow? In the long run, you would be better off to have the pan off, in my opinion.
I went through this last summer with my mustang. There was a small piece of wire that got sucked into the oil pump and seized it up. If a foreign object is in your pump just getting it free won't help, it will just get sucked back in. Pulling the pan is your only option.
i would pull the engine and take it apart is it running a pick up with a screen or with out i had this happen when the previous owner left the screen off of my 390 and it sucked up a c clip from the wrist pin the whole engine was bad the wrist pin went into the water jacket
I also have a 1985 f-150 . At 180000 miles that happened to me( oil pump freeze). I was on the interstate and it luckily knocked the timing out to save my engine. After a new pump (mechanic installed) this truck has more than 460000 miles on it. thats the only major work done on THE engine. this truck turned 20years old in sept of 2004 and has been a great truck . So my suggestion is drop the pan replace the oil pump ---keep on trucking thses engines are known to go the distance ---i know ---hopefully to make 500000 by 06 TR
