IN DESPERATE NEED OF ANY HELP AVAILABLE. LAST YEAR THIS TIME I HAD NEW BRAKES, ROTOR & CALIPER PUT ON MY EXPLORER. THE GUY BLED THE BRAKES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER, I HAD NEVER SEEN THIS DONE. NOW, I HAVE REPLACE THE BRAKES,ROTOR & CALIPER ON THE DRIVERS SIDE EVERY TWO MONTHS, SOMETIMES I REPLACE THE BRAKES EVERY MONTH. I NOTICED THE DRIVERS SIDE BRAKES ARE ALWAY WORN DOWN ALMOST TO THE METAL ON THE INSIDE PAD, THE OUTSIDE PAD IS NEVER WORN DOWN. THE CALIPER IS ALWAYS STUCK(BROKEN) BRAKE FLUID EVERYWHERE. THE GUY AT THE REPAIR SHOP SAID HE HAS NEVER SEEN THIS, HE SUGGESTED A NEW BRAKE LINE. AFTER INSTALLATION I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR ALMOST 3MONTHS WITHOUT NEEDING BRAKES, THEN HERE WE GO AGAIN. THE SAME PROBLEM.
QUESTION: WHAT IS WRONG? DO I NEED TO REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER?
NOTE: THERE IS NEVER A PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE. WHAT'S UP WITH THE DRIVERSIDE? COULD I NEED NEW TIREs?????
Your symptoms indicate 1 of 3 possibilities.
1. Caliper piston is sticking (drivers side) not allowing it to retract slightly when pressure is removed (crappy rebuilt calipers).
2. Blockage/ restriction in brake line (drivers side) holding pressure to the caliper piston when pressure removed (collapsed flex hose / other restriction).
3. Blockage/ restriction in line to passenger side caliper that will not allow pressure to get there that forces the drivers side to do all the front braking.
My suggestion would be to replace BOTH caliper assemblies and both flex line sections. Then bleed the brakes by pumping fluid from the caliper bleed screws backwards to the master cylinder. This will ensure no restrictions in the lines that will hold pressure after brake pedal is removed.
I doubt master cylinder is at fault as the 2 chambers are split into a front/read division. Follow the brake line from the section nearest the firewall (front brakes) and you will see it goes into a connecting block bolted to the frame rail near left front wheel. From there, it splits to left/right brake lines. There could be a blockage there that only affects 1 side, but from what I read, the flex hose sections are generally most suspect.
Thanks For The Reply. I Have Repalced The Drivers Side Caliper And Brake Line Several Times. Is The Flex Hose Or Flex Line The Same As The Brake Line.
Where Do I Buy Flex Line/hose?
