snorkle

i posted this in one of the other forums, and it was suggested i post it here. So here goes. i found a snorkle set up for a carb'd toyota pickup, i want to use the same set up, modified for a EFI. i'm wondering if the tubing used on this set up would sufocate my 5.8L. thoughts on that?

here's the link to the site

http://www.wildyoats.com/snorkel.htm

thanks

I believe that for us withthe 351w engines you need at least 4" maybe 5" lines for that to benefit your truck

thats an awesome idea! i never thought about it. try and keep the hose close to the same size as the intake hose thats already on your truck. know what i am saying? if the air cleaner hose is 4" around try and keep the snorkel not much less than 4"

A thing about tube flow:

Tube with a 1" larger diameter that another tube with have double the flow capacity over the smaller tube.

I belive the efi intake tube diameter is what 2.5"? So a 4" tube would be about perfect.

I thought that most EFI's had 2 seperate 2.5" tubes going to the same place. Then you willl have to mod the intake part...that will be the only "hard" part.

Yeah thats what i meant, 2 2.5" tubes would equal a single 3.5" tube, or a 4" would do fine. For the box, you would have to comptely remove it, and where the air inlet is for the stock box you would have to enlarge it, glue/rivet and seal a fitting of sorts on the enlarged inlet hole, then hook up all your tubing

You could just leave your current ari filter and intake-to-filter tubes where they are. Then reroute the filter intake through the hood and up the A pillar.

That guy used that ribbed tubing stuff, wouldnt that effect ariflow? (Im a diesel guy, and air is everything)

I wouldnt think it would affect it that much, the stock pipe on the 78 was like that, only rectangular.
