Hi. I am about to purchase an F250 of 350, between 1998 and 2004. Each manufacturer has their pros and cons, but I have driven fords when I was in construction, and love them- plus they are the best looking trucks.
I drive about 25,000 miles a year, mostly commuting and work related travel. I plan on plowing during the winter, and towing here and there. From what I have read, the V8 is best suited for the 150. I am torn between the V10 and diesel engine. I like acceleration power and quick response. I also like the long life, hauling power, and better gas mileage of a diesel. If anyone can share their experiences or give some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

oh boy, this topic has been beaten to death, but I own a v10. I don't do any really serious hauling, nor do I depend on my truck for a paycheck. If I did, the upfront cost of the diesel would be less prohibitive.
Diesel is best for towing, it will give you the better fuel economy, snow plowing, make sure you have the heavier front suspenion. I live in Buffalo NY which most people think is a little north of Canada and I have no problems starting with my 7.3 2000 SD. I do plug it in when temp is below 0. One more thing it pulls most hills in overdrive, I've never had a better Ford. I know the motor is a international. The extra money is well spent. Whipline
I have been well pleased with my 2004 6.0. It has spent practically all its miles with a trailer behind it, and it has bore up to every load I've thrown it so far. I haven't had any trouble to speak of with mine. If you're going to do a lot of short trips, the v10 might be better for you, though. I have lots of contractor buddies back east with the v10s.
Do a search, there are a million threads on V-10 vs Powerstroke, both are good, both will move! Both will plow snow with no problem, a 5.4 will plow ok....
I have owned 2 PSD's, now have a 04' F-350, XLT, V-10, 6-speed, DRW, 4:30 ls, this is the best truck yet!, My PSD's both 7.3's, 95' had problems, 99' ran great, but truck issues, and the best mpg was 13.1, was an auto, dump body, 4:10 ls.
This 04' F-350 V-10, now has 15k on it,,not been to the dealer once for anything, is a great truck and engine, tranny rear end combo, the best one yet.
If you want to get in and go,,,tow or just drive,,this thing does great! Plus I plow snow,,matter of fact,,,,the phone just rang, gotta go push that snow now!

With 25K miles a year driving, I would tend to go diesel. However with the extreme cost of diesel right now ($2.60/gal diesel vs. 2.05 for gas here), it really won't make much difference fueling wise between the 2 engines. Who knows if pricing will stay like that?
Make sure and try to find a 7.3 in a 2000-2002, I think it's your best bet if you go diesel. The 2003 6.0 was extremely trouble prone. The 2004 was a little better.
The V10 is a great engine. Very smooth and quiet. I should know, I have one too
