I have a 2000 Expedition and the child safe lock, locks itself on the left passenger door. When you have the child lock in the unlock position and then close the door, then the door locks itself automatically when you drive off. When the person tries to getout at your next stop they can't, When you open the door from the outside the child lock is in the lock position. Any ideas about a fix? I haven't taken apart the door yet to have a look.
Been discussed on hear many times, if you use the search function you can get lots of details. Basically use a small screw driver to pry the black plastic trim off from around the child lock. Now with the door open put the child lock off and using the inside handle pull as if you were opening the door, you can see the linkage move and the child lock moves to on. Use some penetrating oil (wd40 liquid wrench you choice) and spray the linkage while moving the handle, repeat until opening the inside handle does not move the child lock button. You will be good to go from there and pop the platsic trim piece back on. You back seat passengers will thank you.
WOW, Good information. I will have to try that. Guess i can then get rid of that wadded up plastic wrapper that i wedged in the switch to hold it open...
