Just put mine in last nite. Thought it was going to be difficult with what I have read about the old one being hard to break loose. Turned out to be a 10 minute job. Had a 3/8 ratchet with a 10mm socket and a 3inch extension. Held the rachet on the outside of the belt. The bolt came loose with a moderate tug and knuckle bang. Used a flat blade screwdriver to ease out the old one, put some oil on the o-ring of the new one and it popped right in. Snugged the bolt back and plugged it in. All my problems were immediately gone......I hope.
Amazing how that one little part can cripple our trucks! Also amzing how much they charge us for this part, it does not look like much in the package! I paid $180.00 canadian at ford. International was no cheaper up here around Vancouver.
hey mopey, funny you should say that international wasnt any cheaper, up here in prince george i paid about $170 and ford was abut 10 bucks more, i dont know why these guys say to buy it from there, it must be different in the states i guess.

Yea i got quoted for $180 at ford and $90 at int'l
I could not find any decent savings at all at international around here. One international guy seemed to know how much ford charged so maybe they have raised prices a bit.
the dealers try to get what they can. As soon as you tell the intl dealer its a ford they put the wood to ya. Try to get the part number off the old one and call intl for that part number. should be bunch of numbers with a letter followed by 1 or 2 numbers.
I went to International to buy a new cps for my truck and paid $105.00 including tax. The counter parts guy said ford is trying to get International to raise the price of the cps from $97 to $130 or to quit selling them to "Ford" customers because people are going to International to buy the cps for $75-$100 less insted of getting it from Ford. So when you buy a cps from International and they ask you what you drive tell them you drive a garbage truck!!!
i personally think the cps failure rate is extremely high ! i wish there was a way to count the number of failures and then bring it to ntsb and make ford do something about it ! but we all know how that goes...it has to kill some people first ! i guess, scaring the #*@% out of people doesn't count. for example, pulling a 35' fifth wheel up a long tall bridge without a shoulder and the engine dies when the cps fails. i could go on and on. just my .02 . have a great day !
My 99' died just after starting it up today and wouldn't restart, so I had it towed home and just finished pulling out the cps bolt, but can't get the cps out, how do you get a screwdriver in there to pry it out? I am having trouble even getting my hand in there. Also, I do not know which pully is the tensioner to release the belt.
It takes a little patience, but pushing slotted screw driver in on the edge and then twisting handle should get it started. It will come out they are just a little tough to get started sometimes.
