On the AOD tranny, do all of them have a 3-4 accumulator?
I only ask as mine doesn't appear to have one. The snap ring could have fallled out, then the piston, the string all without me noticing, but its unlightly.
Its got the hole where is should go, I can't see any scoring inside, but then I couldn't on any of the other's. Also, isn't 4th Overdrive? So then why an overdrive accumulator?
Any help would be much appreciated, stuck in the UK without help is a pain in the ***.
For 89 and up AOD v-b's, 3-4 accumulation takes place on he back side of the 1-2 accumulator in the v-b. Which eliminates the need for the extra accumulator and had cut production costs.
If you are going to make a habit of messing around with the AOD, I strongly recommend that you get 2 manuals. The Haynes Techbook: Ford Automatic Transmission overhaul (10355) which should be available at Autozone, Barnes & Noble, Books a Mil etc. maybe even Truck Hav. It covers AOD, C6, C5, C4,and C3. The other is the ATSG Ford/Mercury AOD manual. Also, there are some good videos out there.
