voltage regulator problems

78 F150 voltage regulator problems

I have only had the truck for six months and have had to replace the
regulator three times . the last time during the last rain here in vegas.
i have made sure it was grounded well but it keeps going bad and draining the battery . Is this a commin problem ???

Welcome to the forum. No, this isn't a common problem. It happens occasionally, but not that often. Did you get them all at the same store? Maybe they just got a bad batch of them.

The alternator, or the wiring can ruin the regulator. If the "F" wire is rubbing metal somewhere, or the field in the alternator is intermittently shorting to ground inside the case, it will burn up the regulator.
