I have a clunking noise when I hit bumps or sometimes in turns on the front end of my 2002 Ford Escape. Any idea what it could be. I'm going to get it checked out but I want to make sure the wheel isn't going to fall off before i get it there.
I have same problem. I have had it checked but everything checks out ok. I tried to pry up and down on the tire while it was on jacks but I can not reproduce the sound unless i am moving. Starting to think it may be the tie rod from the steering system. Thats the only thing I can figure out. If you find out what it is please let me know. Thanks
Just found my problem. I turned the wheels strait and grabbed the sway bar and gave it a jerk. It made the noise just like driving. I saw an earlier post that said the links where about 20 bucks each. Plan to pick some up this week. Let me know if you have the same problem.
I had replaced them on my 02 Escape (very easy to replace) and have noticed my 05 Escape has some redesigned stabilizer links. The rod is thicker (not round) but I don't know if that solves any wear problems since it's the ball in the nylon socket that wears out. Could be the older rods being flimsy caused premature wear. Let us know if the 02 replacement rods are round or if they upgraded the replacements.
They said the stabilizer link was broken. It sounds great now. They also replaced a loose tie rod end. Have the ESP warranty so 115 bucks and its as good as new.
Thanks for your help.
