Let me know what you think Chiefs ... I'd hate for it all to be my imagination. If you get one. I'm thinking about building my own air box, similar to the performance ones ... and get a tad more air directly to the filter. The stock little hole leaves a bit to be desired.
Right, I will believe that when I see it in person. No way a bonestock 4 banger doing 13 in the quarter, when I have seen v-8 stangs pushing to reach that.
I was going to put a fram airhog in my truck, but I found a cone intake I like better, I like the sound coming from the engine, a nice deep tone, improved gas mileage, and acceleration a wee bit, that was a nice addition.
The Airhog is a cone shape filter. If one were to smooth out the intake from there to the manifold, plus make a freer breathing box, you'd have to add a few horses. Ive thought about making a ram air system to the filter, with a larger and smoother hose assy. Still at the daydreaming about it stage though.
Fordlover55, ram air has been proven to work only above 100-115 mph, otherwise it isn't doing anything more than a standard intake. Not to say that it doesn't look sweet and sounds great to say.
Well, more air intake has to offer something better than the stock air filtering system that comes on a 99. There isn't much of a hole there for an air intake. Most complete kits come with a completely open filter, at least on the top, whith a partial boxing around the filter. So ... by that comparison, I'd think that opening up a more direct air current to the filter, there would have to be some improvement ... however slight ... it would have to be an improvment over stock.
I hope you don't think I'm thinking I'm going to make a hot rod out of my truck ... not even close nor thought of. I just wanted to get some other users impressions of this particular filter and any perceived or real effects they have or may encounter. Just trying to be objective here.
The K&N and the airhog are practically the same aren't they? I did notice that the airhog is only good for about 50,000 miles I believe, with cleaning whereas the K&N is supposedly good for 1,000,000 miles with cleaning. With the price being almost the same as well, I didn't see the point in getting an airhog if the K&N will last longer.
What ya'll growin in them thar hills?
My grandmas '03 Taurus does 10.8 on nos.
I keep tellin her to stay off da bottle before she melts a piston. (kidding)
You must be talking about 13 metric seconds. They are 1.78456 times longer than real seconds.

Well I have to say my buddy is a really fast driver, he always drives like theres no tommorow, his favorite thing to do is get it up too about 50, put it 2nd, rev the motor to 10,000rpms, and dump the clutch. Boy does that thing burn rubber when you do that. Unfortantley it wont burn any rubber if you try from a standstill, its very high geared. He has gotten about 7 speeding tickets in the past 2 years, and he pays his own insurance. He once got a ticket at 103mph in a 35mph zone, what can I say he enjoys life. One time he had a Chevy S10 but it crapped out (spun bearing) from the abuse. The only reason his engine hasant blown is becasue its in an inline four and he maintains it. Anyway he says he notices a HUGE diffference in power with the AIRHOG because the ranger intake design is so restrictive. He also tried the K and N but it leaked dirt to the motor so he swapped it out. Its a 97 ranger, 2WD, standard cab, short bed with the 2.3L engine. And it does do a high 13 in the quarter. Ive seen it.
