I would say the nuts have been over torqued and weakened the studs. That is if the studs are breaking off. Replace all the studs and lug nuts. Then torque them to the spec in your owners manual.
It sounds like its over-torqued like y2klarry said. I have a friend whos brother had put all his tires/wheels on himself and he over torqued the heck outta them. He was goin down the highway and his truck started shaking so he got off on the exit ramp then all his lug nuts on his right front tire just sheared off and his tire flew for a couple hundred feet, but its ok, he didnt flip it and, its a chevy j/k i aint got nothing against chevy.
billybobjr do you have the exhaust system with the tailpipe in front of the wheel?
If you do that can cause the studs and nuts to corrode because of the moisture from the exhaust.
