I'm quite happy with my Cool Start from Crimestopper. It's been installed for a couple weeks now and I have no complaints. I elected not to get a system which included the security portion, and if I was to do it over, I probably would get one with the security system included. It would have only been a few more wires to add to the installation and would have added some peace of mind.
I believe that the "two-way" systems are worth the extra expense and adds that comfort level knowing that your truck has indeed completed the commands you sent to it.
I will not have another vehicle without a remote start in the future - PERIOD !
I have the ford gold from the dealer and it has worked VERY well....
range is not as far as 1000 feet, but it is enough for me....
the neighbor has the two way and the little icon with the smoke coming out the exhaust is cute...
but 9 times out of ten I can tell mine started cuz of the turbo back exhaust Vroom
Go with either the Ford unit (I haven't seen anyone post anything bad about it here) or with a unit from Directed Electronics (they make Viper, Clifford, and other brands). The Directed Electronics' companies have had the most after-market experience with alarms and remote starts. They figured out the issues of dealing with diesels (as well as other issues like manual transmissions) years ago. I haven't put one on my truck yet, but my wife's last two cars have both had the Viper Responder system that has the remote start with the two-way LCD remote. Prior to that, I used Clifford units for years. Just depends on if you want just remote start or if you want an alarm too. The Directed Electronics units are good alarms in that they offer good sensitive adjustments and automatic sensor bypass to mitigate false alarm issues.
MY ford gold was $450 installed... a little steep, but I didn't want the finger pointing from after market... (not to say anything would go wrong, but ...)
I own a 02 F250 power stroke and work in the aftermarket 12v ind. I would go with a DEI/Viper product, all compatable modules are available and have had not one problem ever w/these products. For far less than dealer prices you get way more quality, better features, better warranty and by far better range. But hey just my opinion(13 yrs in the industry) go with whatever makes you happy.

thanks for the words. the ford system is a audiovox code system with their name on it. the only reason i went that way was i travel a lot in warm weather with a drag boat behind me. a lot of dealers when they see after market blow you away . with this one its a ford part number so they have to fix it.
i totaly agree there are cheaper and better out there. but if you have a problem out in the bunies and that dealers installer uses some other brand. what do you do? www.gemsen.com and www.gemsen.com/ford shows who builds and posts the ford install sheets ford dose not give with the unit.
