I got a hold of the Guys at Erson. They are eager for me to ship them my parts. They want to look thnigs over and try to understand what failed and help me get rollin' again. I' mnot saying they are going to warranty the parts, but they didn't rule that out. They seem like good folks to deal with. Maybe, I'll pull my heads and ship to K.C. in the meantime.....
Sounds Like its all starting to work out Greg...I'am glad to there working with you..That does say Something for Erson!!
And your right...Now would be a good time to send your Heads to KC...and have him spec a cam for ya too!
I know you have got to be fealing better about the Situation now....It alway a relief when the Big guys get involved..So you dont think ..your out there alone, with a bunch of broken parts!!
Your combo was awesome. But if ya gotta tear it down anyway....go for it!!! You only live once. You can always keep the milder(???) cam and go back.
I would make sure that you have all the coolant out of the motor before you pull the heads and get it all out of the intake valley and cylinders. It's more of an old wives tale, but they say coolant in the cylinders can cause the rings to "unseat". Better safe than sorry.
gtex, man that sucks! I think dsc motorsports has some custom cromoly stands. I have to contact Denis tomorrow so I'll check. Whether they'll work with your set up is the question. JR
Kevin, I've got lots of free time comin' up..But, it's starting to fill up. If things go to plan, I'll see Austin, Dallas, New orleans and Ruidoso New Mexico within the next week :-) A stay in a big city 5 start hotel, then eatin' Cajun in the good spots in New Orleans followed by snow boarding in ew Mexico. It's hard to be me...
Sombody come rescue my poor neglected project truck....
Is the rocker stand-to-head contact area scuffed up? Doesn't look like it in the pix, but can't tell... as in, where the rocker stand sits on the head, is that surface screwed too? I don't think you have any pix of the bottoms of the stands.
If not, then I don't think it was moving around... What nuts did you use, did they have the lock serations on the bottom of the nut? Is it possible that just expansion and contraction drove the nut into the top of the stand? And you caught it before the stretch was gone and didn't ruin those pretty heads?

That sounds about right. I didn't notice any damage to the heads or the bottom of teh stands. I was using the Edelbrock reccomended stud kit which is an ARP kit. The nuts do have the lock-serated bottom. And that may be the biggest part ofthe problem when not using washers. Unfortuntaley, I need a special size washer to fit between the rockers.
I'll look over the stands and heads when I get home...I still need to pack up and ship the Ersons. I 've been extra lazy lately.

Those serrated nuts (for lack of a better term) act like little chisels, they can theoretically drive themselves right into the aluminum, at least, that's what I would think.
Sounds like you caught the disaster before it happened
Whatcha gonna do about the mashed hole in the top? Get the surface milled off, and try washers?

You're a dog...They actually pay you AND give you that much time off!!! I'm in the wrong business.
Just revisited the pictures, any idea what that crud is in the lifter valley near the back of the block? Possibly the external oiler was also letting dirt in. What brand and weight oil do you run?

I run Castrol GTX 20w50. The pictures are deceiveing. That's actually just coolant on oil with a Flash to decorate it...The Erson guys wanted to know where all those metal shavings came from :-)
BTW, the Erson guys thought that I had the connecting rail on my roller lifters facing the wrong direction. Mine are up against the wall in the lifter valley. They thought they should be facing the center of the engine (away from the cylinders). Anyway, mine appear to be working OK in that position.
