I'm looking for an ISP. I'd prefer unlimited hours/month. The amount of email addresses don't matter. I've tried AOL and Earthlink, and didn't care for either. What do ya'll recommend and what price should I expect to pay? Oh, if it makes a difference I'm in Oklahoma.
I've been using bluelight.com for about five months now. It's only about $8 a month for unlimited use. But you get what you pay for. Sometimes you have to wait while it searches for a line that's not too busy. But otherwise, it seems more dependable than the DSL service we use at work.
YMMV
Thanks for the suggestions all. Unfortunately, I can't afford Cable modem or DSL. But I did find a dial up ISP for $10.50/month, with no contracts or long term commitments to sign, and I get unlimited hours per month with one email account. I'll try this service provider and see how it goes.
I have cable at home (also home office) and love it.. I occasionally have to use dial up when travelling (I travel extensively) and it really sucks - Cable is spoiling me, and there would appear to a relocation coming up - to the boonies of PA, where no Cable nor DSL lurks.. That will suck BIG time.

MSN has served me well over the last 6 years. Rarely have I encountered a server error and I've never gotten a busy signal.
You can get unlimited access for about $20/month an multiple email accounts not to mention the passport web based emails.

I need new friends
Whatever you do - STAY AWAY from Compu Serve! I have NEVER had such incompetnet service! BTW - Compu Serve owns AOL so that should give you an idea of some of the problems you'll have - same as AOL or worse!
I'm locked into a 3 yr contract - 1 yr left to go! My Dad also had CS & he didn't get permission to pass away from CS proior to his death. They wanted to charge him a $350 penalty for canceling his contract early BUT - get this - to make that up to him, they would be willing to give him (get this!) 2 MONTHS FREE SERVICE!!!! Um - my Dad is DECEASED - he can't USE the service - FREE or PAID! It took 6 months of begging, reasoning, pleading & arguing to get his contract canceled - Dec thru May of 2000/2001! Then, after geting it cancelled, the rebate dept tried to take his account to Collections because THEY didn't get his death cert or Power of Attroney - COMPU SERVE DID & didn't "share" it w/them!
As for my account, I had 11 calls in a 2 weeks period for CONSTANT disconnects & it was NOT my computer or modem as it happened on 3 DIFFERENT computers - my desktop, my laptop & even on my Dad's computer which I still use when I go see my Mom!
All I know is ANY ISP is better that CS/AOL & as soon as I can, I'm dumping them & trying Prodigy unless DSL is available to me by then. Thanks for letting me warn you & others about CS - good luck!
I've been using AOL for the past 3 years with no real problems. Only real thing that I wouldn't recommend is going to the newest version they have as soon as it comes out...always wait a little while until they have the bugs worked out. I've never really had trouble getting on, they have 3 local numbers in my area. I guess we pay $22 a month for it, but it's always been pretty reliable for me. I've got friends who live out in some "boonie" type areas here in PA who pay as much as I do, but AOL doesn't have local numbers available in their area so they use other ISPs. Seems like there are all kinds of ISPs popping up out there. Been with AOL since our introduction to the internet, got used to it. I can't even get cable TV in my area, so I guess we'll have to stick with it at least for now.
They advertise unlimited use, but if over time they deem you a "HEAVY" user, they will bill you for $36.oo per month, in direct opposition to thier own advertisements.
Most folks won't have the option, but I got a LADA circuit (dry copper pair) between my house and a building that I support. Using Elastic Networks DSL modems (PairGain is another good brand) I get a full 1.5mbit connection down, 768mbit up, using the T1. So...I basically have a T1 into my house at night when the staff are gone. All for $20 a month :-)
