Question TB for 2.9L Automatic

As some of you know, I got this truck recently and for a good price. I have been going over it and have a couple of problems I need ideas for:

1. Noticed that the kickdown ish't working, no passing gear. Figured I would adjust the kickdown cable to see of that would take care of the problem. Removed the plastic cover on the throttlebody to reveal the kickdown linkage and cable end. To my surprise, there was the cable end, but not linkage to connect it to!!! I am not sure of what this is supposed to look like, but I couldn't find anywhere to connect the cable to. My guess is that someone changed out the TB with one from a manual truck and just left the kickdown cable disconnected. Now do I have to get a whole new TB for an automatic? Can I just change out the linkage? Is getting a TB from a salvage yard a good idea? What do I look for, in ways of telling a good one from a bad one? Can they be rebuilt, like a carb?

2. My charge light comes on and off, with no real ryhme or reason. I have cleaned and checked all the connections, belts and all look good. I took it to the local parts place and they tested the system. It checked out good. I haven't had any problems with low battery or dim lights. Any ideas on what else may cause this??????
