The 292 ran 2 years ago and turned over one year ago but didn't start because of corroded points. I was wondering if there is anything I should do before starting it besides replacing oil, points and condensor, sparkplugs, and the wires and rotor and cap. And also, does anyone know the spark plug gap set. Thanks for the help.
i believe the gap is .030 but not totally sure. pretty sure , just not totally. my block has been sitting for the better of 10 years. I bought a gasket set . drained the oil, filled the crank case with desiel fuel, drained that, flushed it with oil and then filled it up with oil. this is a very good way to clean out the crank case. of course new plugs and points. you may not need to do all of this but it can't hurt.
When you have the spark plugs out see if you can turn the crankshaft with socket and 18 inch breaker bar. If you can then the engine is not locked up and should turn with the starter.
Set the new points at 0.10, and remove the plugs and spray wd 40 in the plug hole and whip the motor over about 10 times, then put the plugs back in and start it, also pull the coil wire and check it for dampness, do same for inside distributor cap. That's about it, and start it. were it me, i would remove my valve covers and spray some wd40 on them, to suffice until oil starts flowing after it starts running. Also after 2 years with condensation issues, change that oil in the thing
I have a 1956 F100 Y block 292 with a 4-speed granny transmission
