Red face Oops!

I sent my 54 to my uncle in Denver(me being from NM) to have an IFS camero front end put on. My uncle spent a great deal of time making sure it every thing was perfect, well almost. When he started putting the truck back together he realized he cut the frame 2" to short. He was so ****ed that he called me to pick up my truck. I did not pay for the work, but now I have a dilema. My fenders are very close to hitting rubber and the tires look a little out of center. Every thing else form motor mounts and radiator and fan fit fine as is now.
The only problem I have Is the tire in the fender

Should I have the fenders adjusted or should I pay someone to redo his mistake. Are there any other suggestions to this problem. Of course money is always a problem, but I would like to do it right and with the least amount of $.

I'd take it to a chassis/hotrod shop and ask for opinions...too many graphs and cuts on the frame may not be a good thing....you may want to start over with another frame.

oooh...i think starting over totally might be a little out of MY idea range....when you think about it, you only said two inches, so sticking that little bit into it might not be all that bad, you could stick your two inches into it, and stick some sort of a brace in the frame, and/or box it....like mike did say though, i would probably take it to a shop around there to see what they have to say

when you didnt have to pay for it to be screwed up in the first place, it might just be worth it to pay to have it fixed nice... "just think of it as having to had spent that money one way or the other."

i guess id cut it and add a chunk between the front clip and the cab mounts, preferably in an "open" area so you could get at everything and get it fixed nice.

"in my opinion"
Darrell

This may sound like a silly reply, but if it is just two inches.Could you put on some smaller front tires.I don,t know how far off two inches looks.Just a thought.Carl

I went though a very similar situation with my IFS.
First off a few Questions? Do your fenders bolt up properly at the cab and rad. Support ?
If yes, then your two inches is in the placement of the IFS rather than the length. And with that I may be inclined to adjust the fender opening.
If no, then you need to add two inches, and I would do just that.
Good luck on whatever way you go
Mike

after thought, if you had the whole front clip (frame rails and all) put on, then disregaurd my post cuz I'm way off base. If you just used the IFS and orig. frame rails then maybe it could help.

Matermow, your "uncle" would not be from Fatmans rod shop near Aurora would he???
Just wondering since there is a guy cutting all his front clip jobs 2-6" off. ANyway I have some pics of 1 way the front fenders can be corrected. I'll post if you decide that is what you would like to do at this point. Good luck.

i know i'm technically upside down in relation to u guys BUT, why stuff around with panels when these things look nose heavy already, u guys have it so easy, why not grab another frame and have another go, this time move the wheel forward 1 1/2 " of centre line, so it looks centred, i'll bet that if u got your uncle to do it again, he'd measure 3 times then cut/weld once, then u could both laugh at how silly a mistake it was, sometimes the best lessons are the hardest.

Many great ideas. Everything lines up fine to the cab and radiator, motor and steering box sits perfect as is now. The IFS is off itself. The length of the frame is fine, just the wheel base is just off. El Cabron if you could send some pictures of the fenders you have I would appreciate it. By the way he isn't from Fatman's. I think at this time I am more inclined to work on the fender openings.
Thanks for the input.

Have you measured the wheelbase? Stock is 110", to center the wheel in the front fenders the wheelbase is usually lengthened to 111.5" IMHO the front overhang is long already if he shortened the wheelbase to 108" Moving the wheel openings back 3.5" will look pretty strange. I'm of the opinion that you should not keep making more changes to "fix" a mistake made, go back and fix it right.
