2nd Gear rubber with AUTO tranny

Does anybody here obtain 2nd gear rubber with their 5.4 engine on occasion? Like when you are at a stand still, FLOOR IT, and when you here the gears change the first time.

If so, what mods have you done?

Just curious, I like bark on occasion. I know it's MORE SPEED if you don't bark tho....

Mine will do it but mostly when it's slightly wet. All I have is an airraid intake and borla muffler. Sounds like you need a programmer or a shift kit.

Yeah trying to save up for a programmer.

Shiftkit will have to wait till my warranty is gone tho, I don't want to take any chances.

Thanks

That's funny. He's asking about chirping gears when mashing the gas, but he doesn't wanna take any chances. Sorry, that struck me funny...it's early.

By chances I meant altering from something STOCK to some add-on that may have warranty violation issues (hence adding a shiftkit). lol

Actually, it is the fan belt slipping at WOT 1-2 shift. Almost every one of these trucks do that. It's not the tires, it's the fan belt.

I agree, its the fan belt. It was very difficult to get rid of the sound, heck I didn't even do that its still there. The 5.4L has some power, but not quite enough to make it chirp from a shift.

I was wonderin' the same thing... I know a guy who runs 15.5 in his ext. cab 5.4 F-150 and even he can't chirp 2nd, I've heard of ppl on different forums doing it but they're usually way more modded than I'll ever be able to afford.

Btw didn't know that horrible sound at WOT from first to 2nd was the fan belt, always thought it was something in the transmission. Very interesting to know... I've also noticed my e/t's are slower whenever mine does it, is there a cure? Like maybe a higher performance belt?

I would think that simply firming the shifts would achieve this. These trucks have power, they usually have good gears, they just suffer from painfully soft shifting. Just my .02

Years ago there was a cheap tire made by Cooper. They would bark setting still, going around any corner, crossing painted lines, I had a set on my '57 Stude. They even squalled trying to parallel park. Maybe he found a set of Coopers?

Out of curiousity, how much are these Gator belts? Do they offer a bit of noticable firmer shifts any?

Is it a pain to put on?

I think I paid around $40 at Autozone. It only takes a few minutes to put on.
