Hi My 83 F-250 4X4 w/351 wont shut off when I turn the key to the off position. The lock cylinder is fine. I have checked all of the wiring on the truck. I have never had anything like this happen to me and I am stumped. Could it be the ignition switch? What else could the problem be? I would geatly appreciate any suggestions or comments.
Thanks
Matt Johnson
I believe some of the early '80s Fords had a diode in the altenator circuit. If the diode burns or short out, it will continue to allow current to flow through the ignition system allowing the engine to run with the key off. Check your altenator circuitry.
