I am rebuilding a '86 302 to put back in my 150. I am going to put in a moderate cam, performer intake and a holley or edelbrock 4V. My truck has an AOD, and I have read that there are linkage issues with an aftermarket carb with the AOD. Can somebody give a non-motorhead the skinny on this? Is there a fix for this? Do I need to scour the yard for a C-6? Help!
I had the C6, and there was a bit of refitting to do when I added my Edelbrock 650 cfm 4bbl electric choke carb. They sell a kit for it wherever you get the carb from (I could have gotten one at the speed shop I went to but figured it wasn't necessary). You can also get it at Autozone or Pep Boys or whatever. I believe it was just simply called a throttle linkage kit, ran about $6, user friendly.

Sorry, meant my Edelbrock Performer series 600 cfm carb, not 650...I was thinking of my old factory installed Holly 650. That's another thing. I highly recommend the Edelbrock carb. Not only does it look real good, but it has your mixture screws easily accesible right in front there.

I recommend the Edelbrock 600 also. Or that new Holley that they've got...both are slap on and turn on the key. The old Holley's required a lot of messing around with to get them to run correctly. They're great at the track where you can tune them for barometric pressure, humidity, and ambient temps, but they are difficult to keep tuned for those varying conditions when your trying to run them on the steet. By the way, if your old truck was a 2V, you should exchange your heads for 4V heads. The ports are larger on the 4vs allowing better use of the 4V carb. Or..why not work the heads a little bit w/bigger valves, angle cuts, a little decking, and polishing and porting. Your engine will love the modifications and you'll really see a real jump in HP.
I would like to stick with a good 2V, one of those holley 2300-500 cfm jobs, but they are hard to come by. I am getting some head work done, so I'll have them spiffy those heads right up.
Thats sure some intersting stuff. I also found a personal page of a guy who handmade some brackets to make it work. Turns out LOKAR has everything I need. Thanks again.
