Question Mechanical or Electrical Gauges...Which is better??

Are any of the two more accurate or reliable? I have mechanical gauges for my oil pressure (tubing) and oil/water temp gauge (capillary tube). Is it worth the trouble with all the tubes or should I just go buy electrical ones and run wires?

no, you want the mechanical ones they are way more accurate and less prone to failure from voltage spikes

The mechanical gauges are probably more accurate, but electric gauges are accurate enough for most uses, unless you're performing some critical scientific experiment with your gauge information and need absolute accuracy. Electric are also easier to put in and there is no risk of accidentally spewing oil all over the inside of the car if a hose fails.

If you use a mechanical fuel pressure gauge, mount it outside the passenger compartment.

Thanks for the feedback. I have another question. Should I mount my oil pressure tube to the same area as the electric sender ( idiot light switch), or should i mount it on my perma cool dual filter mount. Wouldn't the pressure at at the filter be the true pressure. not down by the pump? The reason I ask is that my perma cool has 2 of 4 holes normally plugged . I can easily ad the pressure sender tube at next to the exit hose after the two filters. where is the most accurate spot for the connection? Thanks again.
Thanks for the fuel pressure tip. I was thinking of installing a pressure guage at the rail, if they make something to small enough for hookup. I dont mind picking up the hood to have a looksee every now and then.

You can get a spliter that has a fiting that hooks into the sending unit aka idiot guage so you can have the idiot gauge and the mechanical gauge.

Yes mechinical is far better, my stock facotry gauges were really inaccurate. They werent telling me much, could have overheated and wouldnt of known it.
