Here's a link to a thread in another forum that has pictures of what mavman is talking about. This IS a slick way to tell the difference between 289/302 and 351w.

I am still confused;I supposedly have a 302 in my van. the label on the valve cover say so and the firing order is 302. The 351WCPI that I have looks the same size. I can't see any difference in deck height.What is the difference in the front around the timing cover? Is it extended?

Did you look at the pictures in the above link I posted? Look at the distance between the timing cover/water pump and the bottom of the head where it bolts to the block.
