This is for 2004 Expedition only. The code is not where they are on the 2003 and older vehicles. My mom purchased a used 2004 and the code is no where to be found. The owners manual tells where to find it but it is not there. She emailed Ford and they referred her to a dealer that wants to charge her an hour to pull the code. I know the code has to be printed somewhere but where is the question. I have read all the posts on where to find them on the 2003-older rigs but the 2004 is a new animal. She has spent a quite a bit of time with a flashlight and mirror and still came up empty handed. I am 3000 miles away from her and so I am not much help but if someone that has a 2004 knows where the code is maybe I can explain it to her. Thanks..
The 2003 is when they started the new bodystyle, so the code should be in the same spot on an '04 as it is on an '03. I've heard it is under the dash, like under the steering wheel area, on some box; I know that's vague but that's all I know. But if you can find out where the code is located on an '03, it should be in the same spot of your '04.
I have a 2004 and I just confirmed that the code is exactly where my manual says to find it. Here's the diagram from the manual:
If you open the passenger-side front door, there is a fuse panel on the right side of the passenger foot well. Remove the plastic panel to reveal the fuse box. Above and to the left of the fuse box is the module described in the manual. You should find the code there. It's kind of a pain to see up there though, you need a flashlight and you have to really get your head under there to look up. The drawing in the manual doesn't show the fact that you have to look almost straight up, under the far right side of the dash, and there are some cables going into the fuse box that are in the way. I have a Petzl headlight that makes it a lot easier to see and to have both hands free to hold the cables out of the way.
If the code isn't there, then it's possible the sticker was removed by the previous owner (not sure why they'd do that though). In that case, as Polarbear said your mom will have to take the vehicle to a dealer. If she has a good relationship with a local dealer, they may help her for free. But in my experience, unless you know someone in the service dept. and you've already had work done there (or you just bought the vehicle from them) they'll probably charge for it. I know an hour's worth of labor sounds like a lot, but I doubt you'll find another dealer who won't charge anything for this, assuming you're coming in for the first time.
Thank you.... She told me she looked there but I am guessing that she didn't look good enough. I will have her look a little closer. The dealer where she bought it(Ford) will not give her the code for free because they say they gave her such a good deal that they are already losing money. She stood her ground on the purchase price and did get a good deal but because of there attitude about the code she will not be back to them for anything.
What they would not reset her code? And help her out wow hum what kind of dealer is that? hum what will happend when she brings it in for service. I would write a letter...
It is under the sterring wheel... Lay on the floor and look up behing the fuse box... you should see a 5 digit code thats it.
If you enter that code it will unlock the drivers side door... enter the code then press the 3 after and it will unlock the other doors as well... Press the 7|8 and the 9|0 and you will Lock all the doors.
