I have a 1988 E150 with a 302 and dual tanks. I'm having problems with the multi-tank switching unit (specifically overflow going into the wrong tank). In any case, I'd like to try running on just one tank for a while to see if the decreased capacity is a bother or not, but I don't want to rip-out the entire fuel-line setup just yet.
The current fuel lines are the ford-specific "quick release with perpendicular plastic retainer clip" style. I'd like to re-plumb from one of the tanks to the on-frame pump without completely destoying the factory connectors and such. Basically, That consists of bypassing the multi-switch on the send and recieve sides. Is there a female/female adapter set of any kind that I could use to do this? OR, is the male part of the junction a standard automotive fitting size. Either way, any info would help.
I haven't seen any, but they may be available. I recently replaced the switching solenoid on my Dad's 89 F150. The dealer is the only place that I could find one. It was just under $100.
I found what I was looking for. The local Advance Auto Parts had a section near the "help" brand products that actually contained ford-style fuel parts. I picked up 2 12" male/male fuel adapters (one with 5/16" OD and one with 3/8", just like the switch). Each was about 12 dollars.
On the same shelf they also had 2' fuel lines terminated into the ford-style molded plugs (available again in 5/16 or 3/8) in case anyone wants to replace some worn components on theirs and the dealer is no help.
