that ice looked like 4-5 inches thick. I always guaged it as 2" good enought to walk on if it is good hard ice, 7" will hold 2000 lbs. 14" will hold a pickup truck. and if you ever watch Modern marvels they had one on there about ice truckers. 40 something plus inches of ice holds 40,000 lbs. Yes 20 tons. I beleive that episode is on this week some time on the history channel for those interested.
I watched a show on the discovery channel about truckers (in Alaska I think)They were talking about the trucks going through the ice,and what a risky job it was.You could not pay me enough to do it!One other thing,There is a small lake about 20 miles from here that has an island in the middle of it.Well back in the late 20`s some rich guy was building a home on the island. As the lumber truck,a 1929 Ford, was going to the island it broke through the ice and sank to the bottom. For years afterward you could see it on the bottom. It has since sank in the muck. But I sure would like to find it and bring it back up!
king man i love to see that, about a year ago i was playing on one of the frozen slues, (cold watter back up ponds of a creek) and it frozen over and jumped onto off some gravel and fell threw, into soem nice thick sand, btw im on a moped and old one at that, so i just left it there and was going to get the tractor, but the next morning it flooded and my moped was on the bridge by the end of the day
