I have an 86 f150 w/eec iv 302. It runs fine except when the engine gets around 180 deg or higher. The engine will cut out and barely run. I've checked the fuel pumps, replaced the hp pump, checked the fuel pump relay, replaced the eec relay and changed the ground in case thet was bad. No luck. I've heard about a pip signal problem, so I wired the fuel pump relay to energize with the ign switch. Now I figure there is something that is being effected by the engine heat that either kills the ignition sys or won't cycle the injectors. The ign module is a new Napa echlin module, cost me $80, I don't think that is my problem. I rebuilt the dist with a new pick-up, so that's not the problem. Today I looked over the entire engine harness and didn't find any burned bare or broken wires. I'm on the end of a rope here and goin nuts cuz I can't figure this out!!! Somebody help me!!!
Maybe it's time to invest $30-40 and buy a de-coder for FORD.
Equus sells one for about the above price.
Do a scan and let the computer tell you what the problem is.
The fuel pump should have already been wired to the ignition.
