Just as i fixed my 4 wheel drive, and took it wheeling all of 2 times! i went and broke my B2 again,i was charging through a lil,puddle..well,end of pond..i found out the hardway was a lil deeper then i thought, and i managed to give my engine a niccce gulp of water. So i stalled out there in the middle of the puddle, water up to my bumper,i jumped out and managed to winch myself outta the puddle. Truck wouldnt start for about a hour until it finally turned over. The engine sounds like heck now, with a loud loud click click click noise, similar to what it sounded like when i had a lifter collapse when i first got it. What the heck could this noise be? any ideas?
what you need to do is change the oil and trans fliud give it a clean feel.
you have water in the crankcase and in your trans possibly.
i would change your air filter, oil filter, trans filter, and might also need to change the diff fluid too since it was under water.
If in fact your engine did take a gulp of water, you probably bent a pushrod. Water does not compress as good as air!! With water in the cylinder, the exhaust valve tries to open on the upstroke and there goes the pushrod. OOOPS
Yep, these lil B2's don't like water. If you have stalling problems in water, try putting a beed of dialectric greas on the base of the distributer cap.
If you are out in the boonies, a good thing to do after a dunk-n is to remove the plugs and crank it over to blow any water out of the cylinders. I was way out there Saturday, with a group of 4 other offroaders. I let em all know that the B2 (smallest of the bunch) didn't like deep water. So I got to ride in the rocking chair mid pack. I carefully watched the jeeps bumper ahead for a sudden drop off while we were going through about 100 yards of creek bottom. The creek was as wide as a two lane road, so I had my choice of lines. Hope you get it sorted out.
Do you see where the air is getting sucked in from? right near the grill! i GOTTA change that after i get this sorted out,im willing to bet like 88svt said, its a push rod,how much of a deal is it to fix that? if its to much of a big deal it seems like the ideal time for the 4.0 swap ive been wanting todo
Not difficult to do, just takes a little time, but not much. When I did this to my 71 F-100, I kinda had a bunch of parts left over.. a few bolts, some nuts, and a few rubber things.. it's not too bad. But I do think the air needs to be re-routed, that the first thing I did with mine, I just routed it into the engine compartment tho lol. But you can do the snorkle or cowl induction.
i hydrolicked (lol) my 2.9 at high rpm's . about 4500 . water went right over the hood to the windshield. i ended up bending 2 conecting rods and destroying 1 piston. bent one con rod so bad that the crank counter balance weight sheered the bottom of the wrist pin right off. now i think haveing the air intake right in the grill on a 4x4 is a huge engeniring screw up. mabey you got a slightly bent con rod. get a stethascope and listen to your engine and try to find out were the noise is exactly comeing from
