It is in the GEM (Generic Electronic Module) which is attached to the back of the fuse box under the dash.
What kind of problem are you having with it?
If you're trying to kill the door chime, this might sound a bit confusing but here it goes. Turn your key to the run position, look under the steering column at the plastic cover just below the steering wheel and look for a hole that doesn't have a screw in it and it's just below the key area. If you take a small pocket screwdriver or something like that---push it up into the hole and it pushes a little "plunger" then pull out on your key and this should remove the whole key/tumbler. Now look inside the hole that was left by removing the tumbler and you will see a little metal tab sticking up that makes contact to the key and tumbler. You can either bend it down(but it is kind of spring metal) or you can cut it out of there. That's whats makes contact for the chime to work. If it ain't there----it won't chime. Now if you tear up something other then what I told you----please don't blame it on me.
No comment on mayhelm's suggestion but over here our vehicles are equiped with a buzzer if you go over a pre-determined speed (120 KM/Hr in our case). This, as I'm sure you can imagine, is extremely annoying. I asked Ford to remove the "dinger" and they said it was no problem. I inquired how the system worked because, until I got over here, I never heard of this on any cars back home in North America. ....Same car, different dingers?? The techy said it was all through the computer. While they were at it, they asked if I wanted any other chimes and buzzers removed. Although I wasn't standing over top of them as they performed the task, it led my to believe that once you access the system, all dingers and chimes can be activated or deactivated as required. I would imagine your Ford dealer could help you out with your problem. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks to all who responded.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
I found the chime on the back of fuse block which is integrated with the GEM module. All I wanted was the chime that goes off when one leaves the headlights on. None of the chimes work. Rather that replace the GEM module, I chose to add "day time headlights kit" $54.78. Beats the heck out of replacing the GEM for $141.00.<o></o>
Was the chime not working when you left the lights on? I had the same problem and needed to replace a faulty sensor or relay inline with the fog lights.
Go a head and comment, I will. You should change the "h" in your ID to a "p".
As far as the nifty programing, if theres one for the door chime nobodys heard of it. One of the ones I do know for example is the auto door lock change.
The enable/disable mode is entered when the following series of steps is performed:
1. Confirm that the perimeter alarm is disarmed.
2. Close all doors.
3. Confirm that the ignition switch is in the OFF position.
Note: Steps 4 through 8 must be performed within 30 seconds.
4. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.
5. Press the power door lock UNLOCK button three times.
6. Turn the ignition switch from RUN to OFF.
7. Press the power door lock UNLOCK button three times.
8. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.
9. Verify that the RAP module chirps the horn. This indicates that the RAP module is now in the enable/disable mode and ready to accept program changes.
10. Press the power door lock UNLOCK button one time to command the RAP module to toggle the autolock/relock feature ON or OFF.
11. Press the power door lock LOCK button once to enter the command.
12. Verify that the vehicle horn chirps one time to signal the RAP module confirmation of the command. There should only be one chirp indicating that the autolock/relock feature has been disabled. If one chirp is heard, followed by a longer honk, the autolock/relock feature has just been enabled. Return to step 10.
13. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position to exit the enable/disable mode.
14. Verify that the RAP module chirps the horn once to indicate that a feature has been changed.
Now if there's a way such as this to enable/disable the door chime I would love to hear about it.
Mate, what are you talking about?? Spmuck...... is that a word? What does it mean?
I was only recounting my experience. Silly me to think that more information was better then less. I mearly suggested that i could not comment on your idea as I have zero experience with disassembling the key tumbler and the metal piece that you spoke about. I do not kow how I would or could have offened you, however it seems that I have. That was not my intention.
The written word sometimes has that effect, no tone of voice etc. I do apologize for taking it the wrong way. More info is always better, but after rereading it, it still looks like a poke at my comment. But I'll take your word for it.
I suppose that we could speculate forever on how our words should have been read or written differently, but I am glad that you have taken my word for it and have not taken any offense. Thanks mayhelm.
I must say that this is the most mature and informative forum I have ever participated in and I truly enjoy visiting this site. Now, ...lets get back to helping mikefox670 solve his problem!!
