I have a transplanted 460 in my jeep j10. There is no shroud around the cooling fan and when I go off roading in turns into a giant propeller spraying mud all over under the hood. I even bent the blade due to the water and mud. At any rate I am thinking if would be a good thing to install an electric dual fan in a shroud like you see in the summit cataog. The question is how many cfm would be enough for a stock 460? I have no oil cooler or trans cooler and its an efi motor.

ya thats a good idea,i work at autozone go ther thell help u find the right fan, im getting redy to do the same thing also check the wreacking yards for a fan
i have a 780 cfm vacuum secondary holley on my 460, alot of people say thats too much for a stock 460, but i tell ya, it brought mine to life and ill never put a smaller carb on it, my friend had a 650 holley on his 460 and it had no guts at all, he put a 750 holley on it and now it keeps up with mine, well.....almost
djmac,
I would go with a 2500 cfm or possibly bigger, I made a very thin shroud out of metal that completely covered the radiator then cut it out for the fan assembly,At least you'll get full flow thoughout the radiator, I think I bought the flex-a-lite 210, says its good for 250 horsepower. I hoping that with the aluminum rad. I have, this will be enough, but I only had 3 1/4" from my pulleys to my radiator, didn't leave many options. Anyways, go with the biggest that will fit your truck and your budget and get one with a manual switch so you can shut it off for the high speed mud runs

almost right ill take the challeng buddy im might have to spank that turd
thanks for the tips. a switch would be a great idea and we had a taursus and i remember the fans would really kick em out. if i got one on out of the junk yard i would have to pick up a thermostatic switch to control it. any suggestions on what one?
You can buy an adjustable fan switch/ relay wiring kit from
summit or jegs. I just get into a napa switch book @ look for one that has the temp range im looking for. I try to find a fan relay out of a junker, but napa also has these. Most of the time i like to put a master override switch in for stop@ go traffic @ really hot days. On our mud buggys we have been mounting the radiators behind the cab in the bed. This lets us seal up the engine compartment really well. It also keeps the radiator a lot cleaner!

Taurus fans work real well. Almost any of the fans from later
model air cond.cars move a lot of air.
Good luck HOTWRENCH
Hotwrench,
When you indicate the taurus fans if I remember right they have 2 fans. 1 for the radiator and the one next to it was wired to come on with the a/c. Would i need both of these fans to get enough air? And do the come in a single shroud or are they mounted separately?
The taurus fan is good, but the mark VIII fan is the highest flowing fan factory or aftermarket IMO.You have to have a 130 amp. alt. to power it.
Do a google search for mark VIII fan someone has a web "how to" for a mustang.
I have a $30.00 taurus fan on my turbo coupe with a $17.00 autozone thermostatic switch and it works great.
