I just put a 460 in a 68 crew cab. I just used the frame horns (engine mounts?) out of the 77 that the 460 came out of. The headers have to go in before the engine, otherwise it fits pretty well.
Yes, the 514 is just a stroked 460. Wish I had one. One other thing to watch for, the headers fit so tight, they actually touched the steering box and I had to put a small dent in the header to make it clear. Since the heat would then be soaking into the steering box, I decided to send the headers to Swain Tech coatings, for a thermal coating. These guys coat headers for Nascar. That keeps the heat off the steering box. I also added a power steering cooler for added protection against the heat. (You may not have power steering so this may not be an option.)
dalejr, whose headers are you using for your engine swap? i have a 68 f100 2wd short bed. i have a set of l&l's 79750D's and they look like they are going to fit tightly. i am also using the mounts from a 78w/460. i may pull the tranny and try to install everything at once. any suggestions would be appreciated. cheers, garsten.
