I picked up a FirePower 110V plasma Cutter a couple of weeks ago (Wife still doesn't know about it, Thinks it's another welder). I don't know how I ever got along without it before. It's great for custom body work!
It is made by Victor out of California. It has it's own Compressor so you don't have to bother with hooking it up to an compressor and dry the air. I got it thru a friend who owns a NAPA Store (He owes me a lot of Money). It will cut thru 3/8 steel or 3/16 Aluminum. One handy tool!
dang I've never heard of a plasma cutter cutting up to that thick. Ours at work will
cut up to 2'' mild steel. You can cut some real thick material with a regular torch too
8'' as high that I know of, but i think you have to have like a demolition type cutting
rig. Hey black1, do you by chance work at Wirco?
it uses a plasma arc combined with compressed air to cut through the
material. Yeap there are some cheaper one's. The firepower offers smaller
machines, hobart offers smaller ones, probably miller as well as a few other
brands (can't think of them off the top of my head now). But with the
small machines they can't cut very thick. Hey a trick for straight cuts, set
you up a fence like a piece of angle or flat or whatever.
Not Wirco. I work for a metals distributor. Primarily sheet and plate, stainless and nickel alloys. Stainless 304 and 316L are like vanilla to Baskin Robbins. C276 and 625 is where the money is.
We don't have a waterjet or laser cutter, but I've got vendors for that. Our big plasma table is 20' x 40'. It's a heck of a machine.
oh I thought there for a minute you might work for wirco, they do a
lot of stainless fabrication. Yeah 20' x 40' is one helluva machine. Ours
isnt a cnc pattern cutter like yalls, at one time we did have a cnc cutting
table/machine for either propane or acetylene that had 5 robotic arms
it wasn't big but it'd cut a lot real fast.
*Drools at thought of plasma cutter* Man, wish I could afford one, Ive used one at school for a theatre production and it was a sad day when we had to return it to the company we borrowed it from. Beats oxy-cutting anyday.
